GAA Oral History Project
The GAA Oral History Project was commissioned by the GAA as part of its 125th anniversary celebrations in 2009. The aim of the project was to record, collect and preserve the memories, stories and opinions of the people involved in the GAA – to piece together the grassroots history of the organisation.
Between 2009 and 2012 c. 790 interviews were conducted with c. 1,300 GAA fans, players and administrators. The interviewees represent all 32 counties as well as places in the Irish diaspora and allow listeners to understand what the GAA means to people and its place in Irish society.
