UCD Scholarcast series on ‘Memory and Community’

Memory and Community: Second Lecture Series, Spring 2014

UCDscholarcast is a Digital Humanities project dedicated to the dissemination of academic research in the field of Irish Studies and adjacent disciplines through podcasting. Their specially commissioned open access podcasts are given by leading scholars, writers and artists.

The second lecture series, on the theme of ‘Memory and Community’, is taking shape and the following three lectures are now confirmed:

* Professor Richard Kearney, ‘The Politics of Memory: Between History and Imagination’, 3 March

* Professor Guy Beiner, ‘Intra-Community Remembering and Forgetting: Commemorative Possessiveness and Envy in Ulster’, 1 April

* Dr Fionnuala Dillane, ‘Affective Historiography, Effective Anne Enright: narrative, aesthetics and memory making’, 8 April

All lectures will be held in the Humanities Institute at UCD, 2.30-4pm. And, as before, the lectures will be available as podcasts.

Theatre of Memory
The first research event of the new year is the major symposium next week (Jan 16-18) at the Abbey Theatre, ‘ The Theatre of Memory ‘. See for details.
