Dublin’s Little Jerusalem

Did you or your parents grow up in Portobello among the Jewish community in the 1920’s/30s/40s/50s/60s ? What are your happy memories of your Jewish neighbours & friends? Or what stories did your parents pass on to you?

Dublin’s Little Jerusalem a creative programme for Senior Citizens and/or their adult children (both Jewish and non Jewish people), who live or once lived in the Portobello district of Dublin. The participants will simply be asked to take part in a storytelling exchange in Rathmines Library facilitated by playwright and research Artist in the community in Portobello Margaret Callan-Bergin.

The programme consists of:
* A wonderful evening of Storytelling in the Library
* Your stories and memories recorded and documented
* Your stories will form part of local history and will be part of an exhibit in The Irish Jewish Museum.
* A special follow up invitation to the Irish Jewish Museum for those who take part.
* The Stories will also act as inspiration for the playwright
* The programme is open to both Jewish and Non Jewish people

Margaret Callan Bergin is a playwright, actor and theatre director. She has written for R.T.E. and performed for the BBC. Margaret’s most recent commission was from Dublin City Public Libraries for her play ‘Rudy’, which toured libraries all over Dublin with huge success. The play was also part of DCPL artistic programme ‘Graffiti Art or Vandalism?’ This programme was nominated for a Dublin City Council chamber of commerce excellence in business awards.

Margaret is writer, director and producer for Garbo Productions Theatre Company based in Rua Red Arts Centre Dublin.
